I used my new telescope (Xmas gift from the best and sneakiest wife on the planet) last night and it was really cool. I am an excited boy. Was amazed at the number of stars that suddenly popped up when the scope zoomed in. Just need to figure out how to set it up so that it can find things for me. Maybe I’ll watch the DVD that came with it.

While on the topic of Xmas, is there any particular reason that kids toys need to be bolted into their boxes like a witch is latched into an Iron Maiden? Declan’s new toys almost didn’t make it out of their prisons, but I finally called in a favor from a search and rescue team and some Navy SEALS on the demolition squad. It’s a freaking TOY! Not the launch codes for the US Nuclear arsenal. If those SEALS didn’t bring kryptonite encased bolt cutters, Declan would be one sad puppy.

Which brings us to Rio who is doing much better since we took the tennisball tumor out of her throat. I don’t look forward to the day she passes. Will have lots of memories with her. Will use my newfound Tralfamadorian time scrub to visit with her frequently.

Slaugter-house Five by Kurt Vonnegut was a good book. I will have to assume that no one in my entire family (parents, uncles, aunts, friends of parents, uncles, aunts, brother, sister, etc.) ever read it because they would always tell me as a kid that I thought up weird stuff. I think of all the time I wasted not reading cool stuff, and how often I ended up not getting a book from the library because I was too overwhelmed by all the choices – All those bored years that could have been filled with, well, something. Of course, what adult in a miniature western Maryland townlet is going to suggest to a 12 year old in 1982 that he should read Vonnegut? Well, one guy did, but he was burned as a witch within a year. I think they still keep his head on a pike at the city limits as a warning to “outsiders”.
